As a member of the Port Dalhousie Business Association Wolfgang became interested in working on City Council. His objective is to facilitate cooperation between other councilors, the Mayor, and the Region to bring sustainable and effective enhancements to life in the City of St. Catharines.
Wolfgang believes in contributing to, and participating in, a healthy, vibrant, and diverse community. This kind of community can be achieved and fostered when public policies allow for sustainable and mutually beneficial growth, development, and preservation.
Historical elements, social traditions, environmental sustainability, and emerging economic growth can thrive when citizens, local government, and experts work together. Wolfgang’s business, academic and life experience allow him to contribute as a leader amongst his peers.

Aktiv Life Inc. was launched by Barb and Wolfgang Guembel in 2011 and incorporated in 2014.
Three divisions include a triathlon an multisport retail store in Port Dalhousie called Trysport Niagara, an events group called Aktiv Racing, and a product design brand called Aktiv,
Trysport Niagara specializes in products and services related to competitive swimming, cycling, running, and triathlon.
Aktiv Racing, the events division, produces an annual trail running series, open water swimming series, and the Oktoberfest Half Marathon, and offers chip timing services to other local events.
New for 2015 will be a summer triathlon camp program for kids, and a junior elite triathlon development program
Aktiv produces custom designed products such as event tents, swim caps, athletic clothing, and bicycle frames.

During his work at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), Wolfgang studied and researched various public polices related to education including financial, leadership, and curriculum policy.
Further work included research related to leadership styles and methods. Specifically he devoted work to mentoring programs for new administrators. These programs investigated challenges faced by teachers taking on new roles as vice principals and principals and how their choice of leadership style can impact their success.

Certified in Math and Science for Junior and Intermediate (Grades 4-10) students, Wolfgang worked as a substitute teacher in the District School Board of Niagara from 2006 to 2012 while training and racing fulltime as a professional triathlete.
Additional teaching experience includes time at Montcrest Private School in Toronto, as well as guest speaking in Peel Region and Waterloo Region District School Board.
B.A.Sc. – Environmental Engineering, University of Waterloo
Wolfgang’s academic career started at the University of Waterloo in Environmental Engineering. By 2003 Wolfgang had completed 12 months of engineering work in navigation and environmental consulting, and 12 months in research related to drinking water treatment.

Product Developer for Nineteen Wetsuits
In 2011 Wolfgang was invited to utilize his engineering background and elite swimming skills to help design and develop new triathlon wetsuit products for the Canadian company Nineteen Wetsuits based in Toronto.
Key changes to the Frequency model, and the brand new top of the line Rogue are the result of Wolfgang’s work.

Professional Triathlete and Coach
In November 2002 Wolfgang was the fastest amateur Canadian at the World Triathlon Championships and then qualified for his 2003 professional triathlete designation. He raced the 2003 season for a professional team in Munich Germany before returning to Canada in 2004 to pursue teaching and to migrate from racing Olympic Distance to Long Course and Ironman triathlon.
In 2006 he began working as a professional triathlon coach with NRG Performance Training, one of the biggest and best professional coaching services in North America.
Since 2004 Wolfgang has set course records in Ontario at the Windsor Sprint Triathlon, the Peterborough Half Ironman and the Welland Half Ironman. He also won the Muskoka chase in 2008 and was runner up in 2007 behind triathlon legend Craig Alexander.
In 2010 Wolfgang won the prestigious and historic Stongman Japan Triathlon and finished the year with a 7th place at Ironman Canada with a 3:00:00 marathon off the bike, and is an Ironman 70.3 Champion. He has completed 14 Ironman events as a professional including the World Ironman Championships.
